Dizzy’s trumpet, sculpture at Brutus’ Wild summer of art
Dizzy Gillespie’s legendary trumpet, whose bell got bent 45 degrees during a performance in 1953 when someone accidentally fell over the trumpet. ‘He kept it this way because people in the back of the room could hear him better and he liked the sound that seemed slightly changed’ Large-scale imitated with foam, PVC and covered with tin of deep-fat fryer and wok oil cans that can be found here and there on the street. This makes it an ode to multicultural Rotterdam, and an icon from music history.
